How Does Moisture Mapping Work?

Moisture mapping is conducted using specialized equipment, including moisture meters and infrared cameras. These devices detect and measure moisture levels in building materials, such as walls, floors, and ceilings.

  • Moisture Meters: Inserted into or placed on building surfaces, moisture meters measure electrical resistance, which changes with moisture content.
  • Infrared Cameras: Capturing thermal images, infrared cameras detect temperature differences caused by moisture accumulation. Wetter areas appear cooler in infrared images due to increased evaporative cooling.

Data collected through these methods is analyzed to create a moisture map, a visual representation of moisture distribution within the structure. The map identifies areas of high moisture levels, allowing for targeted interventions.
